| Description: |
The Attendance Review Panel is made up of representatives from Alexandria Mental Health, Alexandria Department of Social Services, Alexandria Police Department, the 18th District Court Service Unit and Alexandrdia City Public Schools. The panel meets with the parent, age appropriate student and school social worker(referral source). The participants state their case. The panel members offer information and services based on the agency they represent,as well as outline the consequences of further truant behavior. Everyone signs off on an attendance improvement contract and the school monitors the family's compliance with the contract.

| How Program is Funded: |
In kind funding. Alexandria Department of Social Services, Alexandria Police Department, 18th District Court Service Unit, Alexandria City Public Schools and Alexandria Mental Health provide representatives for panel meeting with students and their parents two full days per month during the school year. Any incentives we provide to the family are donations from the business community. The incentives include coats, shoes, school supplies, sticker, etc. |

Evidence of Effectiveness:
|
Final evaluation report available
|
How do you know your program is effective: Alexandria City Public Schools' Monitoring and Evaluation Services anaylzed the Attendance Review Panel data on 9-23-03. They looked at attendance before the student met with the panel and then after the meeting. They found that except for the middle school studnets' absence from classes, the Attendance Review Panle appears to have met with some success in reducting the absences and tardy incidents among students reviewed. The effectiveness appears to have been greatest at the school level.
|
What has not worked in the program any why: Middle School student's absences from class. We don't know why it has not been effective with this population. These students were referred on to court for a CHINS.
