| Description: |
The Truancy Reduction Program (TRP) is a 45 school day (nine school weeks) project for students adjudicated as truants in the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Truancy Court.
The TRP is broken down into three phases, with improved attendance as a requirement for moving into a different phase level. TRP staff meet daily with students in the program, and work in close collaboration with school, court, and tribal professionals to monitor attendance, academic performance and disciplinary issues.
TRP staff work closely with parents by providing weekly progress reports and having weekly contact with them.
The mission of the TRP is to work with students and families to help each child stay in school.

| How Program is Funded: |
Program is funded by the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians |
|
Evidence of Effectiveness:
|
Internal evaluation in progress, Internal evaluation completed The Truancy Reduction Program is evaluated internally at the end of each school year.
|
How do you know your program is effective: The data collected on all students participating in the program has shown a strong (62%) ratio of success in completing the program, for the 2003-04 school year. This percentage is an improvement in the completion rate of 45% from the 2002-03 school year.
The staff of the TRP still believes that this is a "work in progress", but through internal evaluations, and input from other collaborative partners, we are looking for an improvement in our success rate for the 2004-05 school year.
|
What has not worked in the program any why: Initially during the first year, TRP staff relied on mailing letters to parents/guardians to provide them with information and as the main source of contact. Feed-back from parents/guardians was rare, and it was difficult to gauge their level of involvement in the TRP.
Another problem was that TRP staff were collecting signatures for Releases of Information at the end of court. This led to the perception that the TRP was going to fix the problem, and that parent involvement was not important.
