Description: The Truancy Reduction Project serves habitually truant students per standards of Compulsory School Attendance Law. School Districts file a truancy action on these students. The parent & student have an option to participate or continue through the court system. Truancy Case Manager(TCM) meets the family, discuses reasons for the truancy and asseses the needs of the family to create a treatment plan. TCM may refer to numerous service providers to assist the family. Once the family signs the plan and is approved by the magistrate it becomes a court order. The TCM may modify or sanction the family. The TCM monitors & supports the family. The goal is to abate truancy behavior long term.

How Program is Funded: At the start of the program it was grant funded for three years through the Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Counsel. Following this funding source the Colorado Department of Education provided grant funds thruough the present.
Evidence of Effectiveness: Data has been submitted continually to date and is still on-going.

How do you know your program is effective: Students graduate form the project succrssfully. The fact that the truancy behavior has been changed, grades improve & external problems have been modified. Which can be substanciated by the school data.

What has not worked in the program any why: Service providers who offer culturally competant services to those without the ability to speak English within their communities. The availability of services is limited unless families travel a long distance. Transportation to and from service providers. Lack of ownership ability for economically challanged families.
