Description: Cowley County Youth Services employs two truancy officers that serve five school districts within Cowley County, KS. Referrals are made by the schools, parents,concerned citizens, etc. once it is determined that a youth is at risk of becoming truant. There is collaboration between Youth Services, school districts, law enforcement agencies and juvenile courts. The truancy officers have been empowered by a local Administrative Order to carry out actions relating to any youth between the ages of 3 and 17 on truancy issues; serving as a representative of both the County Attorney's Office and the local office of Social and Rehabilitation Services. 

How Program is Funded: The program is funded 91.9% by the State of Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority (JJA) block grant funds, and 8.1% by the School Districts in Cowley County.
