Description: The major goal fo CEA's SAFE Program is to address needs of students currently at risk of continued habitual truancy which is a precursor for dropping out of school, low academic achievement(functioning well below basic grade level), lack of motivation and enthusiasm, poor communication skills, and academic failure. The major focus of SAFE is to empower at risk youth and families with holistic, commnunity-based prevention and intervention activities that seek to improve attendance, reduce tardiness,and connect youth and families to community resources. 

How Program is Funded: Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Children, Youth and Families 
Evidence of Effectiveness: Internal evaluation completed  

How do you know your program is effective: During this program year, our youth participants achieved noticeable progress in the areas of school attendance an 83.2%increase and improved grades by 66.4%. A majority of youth participants are from the Pittsburgh Public Schools,which operate 65 schools with over 29,000 students and an operating budget of $533.6 million. These figures translate to average annual cost of over $18,000 per student.CEA's SAFE program is annually saving an estimated $3,418,000 to Pgh Schools a other districts
