Description: Families And Schools Together (FAST) is a collaborative prevention and parent involvement program designed to build social and family relationships and protective factors that address school failure, alcohol and drug abuse, violence, delinquency, and child abuse and neglect. FAST National Training & Evaluation Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the dissemination and evaluation of the FAST program.

How Program is Funded: FAST is funded by many funding streams; however, most FAST programs are grant funded. A detailed list of previous funders is available upon request. Specfically, FAST is funded through foundations (i.e., Helen Bader Foundation, Children's Trust Fund, etc.), corporations (Hormel Foudnation, Kraft Foods, etc.), Government Grants (Safe Schools / Health Students, State Incentive Grants, etc.).
Evidence of Effectiveness: Internal evaluation completed, External evaluation completed, Final evaluation report available, Randomized Controlled Trials

How do you know your program is effective: Positive results from various randomized controlled trials of FAST are published and can be found online at www.wcer.wisc.edu/fast/progeff/index.htm In addition, every implementation of FAST is evaluated with pre/post-test data from two independent raters. A more detailed description of this process can be found on the aforementioned website.

What has not worked in the program any why: Outcomes of FAST will vary when sites do not uphold program fidelity. While 40% of FAST is comprised of core components, 60% is adaptable to local needs. FAST has an established quality assurance structure to assist communities so that program fidelity is maintained and positive outcomes are achieved.
