Description: Since 1999 Juvenile Intervention Services for Truants (JIST) has offered a twelve-week community-based intervention to youth and their families who are seeking assistance in improving family relations, school attendance and increased positive adult interactions for youth. The JIST case managers meet face to face with each youth on a weekly basis for 1 to 2 hours to review and set goals; provide appropriate referrals to resources, and to advocate on the youth’s behalf for services. The JIST program is also a part of a pilot project with Oregon Trail Middle Junior High, Indian Trail Jr. High School and Ridgeview Elementary in Olathe, Kansas in an effort to address truancy needs at the middle school and elementary levels by providing education, preventative services and if necessary formal Truancy Case Management. The school-based program began in the Fall of 2004 serving Oregon Trai 

How Program is Funded: Various state and local grants and foundations. 
Evidence of Effectiveness: Internal evaluation completed  

How do you know your program is effective: Follow up statistics are gathered from youth and families as well as schools and the juvenile justice system for one year after program complettion. Success is measured by youth comleting the program no longer truant. Follow up sucess is determined by youth you maintain an attendnace percentage of 95% or more and who do not incur any new juvenile offender charges.
